Did you know... that there is a meteorological term for rays of sun that beam through dark clouds? Yep, the term is crepuscular rays. Now that you've had your vocabulary lesson for the day, we can #reframe and use dark clouds and crepuscular rays as a metaphors for our lives.
The sun shining through the clouds is a reminder that even on our darkest, cloudiest days, the light always finds a way to shine through. And, while the clouds can bring terrible storms and devastation, they are temporary. The sun is permanent (at least for the next 4.5-5.5 billion years), bringing life-giving warmth and restorative energy.
Which brings me to the lady in the elevator. Recently, I had the occasion to share an elevator ride with a woman as I was on my way to an important event. We exchanged pleasantries and I shared that I was feeling anxious and nervous, not knowing how the event would go. The lady appeared to be a bit older than I, and said that she had "been there" with a similar experience, empathizing with my feelings. With a warm smile and a knowing nod, she offered me kind words of reassurance and encouragement. The elevator ride lasted only a few seconds, but her gentle presence and kindness were warming rays of sunshine through my dark clouds of self-doubt. I will be forever grateful and will never forget that elevator ride.
As you navigate through your days and weeks, I invite you to be the crepuscular rays shining through someone's dark clouds. And, if you are currently experiencing dark clouds in your life, take solace in knowing that they are temporary.
Wishing you peace. Until next time, be well.
