Can you relate to Garfield's "Monday Face?" You may feel like a "Monday Victim." There just may be a quick and effective way to turn your frown upside down, reframe, and change your entire perspective. Check this out:
Today's Meaningful Monday post will introduce the "Dreaded Drama Triangle" (DDT) and "The Empowerment Dynamic" (TED) from author David Emerald.
In the Dreaded Drama Triangle of Mondays, there are 3 actors:
1) The Victim. That's you - feeling as though things are happening TO you, feeling helpless, attacked, mistreated or discounted in some way.
2) The Persecutor. The Supporting Role in the Dreaded Drama Triangle is the Persecutor (Monday). This role is responsible for all of the Victim's troubles, grumpiness, etc.
3) The Rescuer. The Rescuer's Role is to deliver the Victim from harm by the Persecutor. The Rescuer could be a person, situation, or whatever is perceived to "save" the victim, in this case it could be the next weekend, or Tuesday.
Now let's shift or reframe our perspective just a bit from the Dreaded Drama Triangle (DDT) to The Empowerment Dynamic (TED). Similar triangle concept with dramatically different possibilities. There are still 3 actors but the outlook is quite different.
1) The Creator. The Creator stays focused on a desired outcome whereas the Victim remains focused on problems.
2) The Challenger. The Challenger transforms the Persecutor(s) into gifts or lessons for growth. The Challenger asks "What insights have I gained from this experience?"
3) The Coach. Unlike the Rescuer, The Coach is not responsible for rescuing the Victim. The Coach is not attached to any particular outcome, but rather supports the Creator in manifesting what they desire. The Coach remains curious, asks questions, and makes occasional suggestions to help the Creator gain clarity of purpose.
So there you have it: Flipping the Dreaded Drama Triangle of Monday on its head with the Power of TED.
Reflection Questions for Any Situation: Are you a Victim or a Creator? What / Who are your Persecutors or Challengers? What / Who are your Rescuers or Coaches?
