Insight Bite: Go Heavy on the "Ish"

With 2023 peeking its head around the corner, you may be considering some New Year's resolutions to kick off the new year. Perhaps you are thinking about eating healthier, getting more exercise, quitting a nasty habit, or starting a new hobby as January 1st rolls around. All. Good. Things. However...

As well-intentioned and enthusiastic as we all may be, nearly half of us will fail before February, and only about 9% will actually stick with our resolutions for the entire year. Ouch. But don't be discouraged! Human behavior is an interesting and complicated subject. Which leads us to today's Insight Bite.

Today's Insight Bite for any New Year's resolution(s) you may be considering is: Go Heavy on the "Ish."

What does that mean? Instead of the "Go Big or Stay Home" large (and unrealistic) resolutions, try starting small by adding (or eliminating) one thing at a time. Perhaps consider habit stacking, which has been found to produce more successful and long-lasting change by inserting a new behavior into something you already do (or don't do). Another suggestion is to allow yourself grace and space to #reframe and adjust your goals to your daily conditions. Some days are better than others and putting unnecessary expectations on yourself is not helpful!

Wishing you peace, health and happiness in the New Year. Until next time, be well.
