Not Frisbee... FISBE. This week's post is also from David Emerald's book, The Power of TED, The Empowerment Dynamic.
FISBE can be summarized by whatever we Focus (F) our attention on, creates our Inner State (IS), which influences our Behavior (BE). Here's an example of FISBE that some of us may relate to:
Focus (F): We focus on a problem, such as a number that appears on the scale we step on on a Monday morning.
Inner State (IS): The number on the scale creates an internal reaction of some kind, which could be positive, negative, or neutral.
Behavior (BE): Our reaction to this information could be to change our diets, exercise more, shrug it off in indifference, or throw out our scale. Possibly all of the above.
As an attempt at a light-hearted example, this plays straight into the Dreaded Drama Triangle's (DDT) Victim Orientation from last Monday's post. However, when we shift our focus to TED or The Empowerment Dynamic, we can change our internal state, which can radically alter our behaviors and yield more positive outcomes.
How we see the world, shapes our reality, and our relationships. So, next time you feel yourself being drawn into the Dreaded Drama Triangle, try playing FISBE to see how a shift in focus can change your inner state and your behavior for the better.
