Happy Monday Greetings! "Happy Monday" may seem like an oxymoron to some, but what if Monday, and every day, came with the prospect of finding gold nuggets? Perhaps that might change your perspective.
The California Gold Rush of the 1800s drew thousands of people to California and the western United States in search of gold and riches. Many became rich by employing sophisticated mining techniques, and many became rich by retrieving gold from streams and riverbeds using the simplest of methods such as panning. The panning process involved scooping sediment from a river or stream into a pan and then swirling it around to separate the mud from prized gold nuggets.
We can use panning for gold as a metaphor for so many things. Treasures that enrich our mind, heart, and spirit can be found in our daily experiences. As we sift through the mud and sediment in the steady streams of sad and horrific news stories, busy schedules, or challenging interactions with people we encounter, we can find metaphorical "gold nuggets." For some, gold nuggets may be found in a kind gesture, or in an unexpected compliment. For others, gold nuggets might be found as a newly learned skill, job opportunity, a call or text from an old friend, or news that a loved one's illness has gone into remission. The list is of where gold nuggets can be found is nearly endless.
Keeping it short and sweet, this week's reflection is: How many gold nuggets can you find every day? How do they enrich your mind, heart and spirit? How can you be a gold nugget for someone else?
Until next time, be well, and may you become rich with newly-found gold nuggets.
